Same image as on old-games.ru, only converted from ISO to BIN/CUE, or just ripped from a CD. It doesn't really matter as there is no music, so ISO is also fine.

As not even srrDB has original, it is safe to assume it is lost forever.

Same release as in first post is here, it's Repack 1 with 2016 dates: Story is, first twkolor's cloud went down last year, but myles downloaded all, and then I asked him to upload back, then in March twkolor made a second cloud, now even bigger.

Tell me if you need Repack 2.

Same image as on old-games.ru, only converted from ISO to BIN/CUE... It doesn't really matter as there is no music, so ISO is also fine.
In my opinion, old-games.ru is an unreliable source considering game images. By the way, BIN/CUE does matter in this particular case because of Mode-2 image (only Mode-1 unprotected image can be converted to ISO without data loss).
As not even srrDB has original, it is safe to assume it is lost forever.
My friend has this release since 1999, but he doesn’t want to share it.

[1999] Age_of_Wonders-FLT.Repack

Post by Da Fox »

It's great to see torrminatorr return! I remember making a post here just before the pause but it doesn't appear to be here anymore. Can someone please confirm that it is gone / is there any way to restore it? I wrote a lot of useful information in it about reconstructing this release, it would really be a shame if it could not be recovered.

--edit

Unfortunately it seems that my old post is gone forever :(

Here is the reconstructed release matching Age_of_Wonders-FLT. This matches the "Original SFV" from this post. --edit 2

One trick that I do remember and still have the script for is for creating the .cue file. I downloaded a bunch of example .cue files from other FLT releases from around the same time. It turned out that there was quite a variety in different "styles". Some of the most common variations were:
  • Either Unix or Windows line endings,
  • Casing of the .bin file name (all caps, or all lower with seemingly always upper case .bin),
  • The .bin file name may be an absolute or relative path (i.e. with a drive letter),
  • The drive letter (if present) may be either C:, D:, or E: (in either upper or lower case),
  • There may be a sub-directory ISO or not,
  • The file may or may not end with a special character SUB (ASCII 0x1A)
  • The mode may be either MODE1 or MODE2
So I created a script to generate the .cue with all these variations and run srr -q in a loop, stopping once it did not output "File CORRUPT: FLT-AOW.CUE!". I got lucky and found the right combination :)

The final .cue should look like this, with CRLF and no trailing SUB:

Code: Select all

FILE "E:\FLT-AOW.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
I also found the command line I used in the final reconstruction, this uses DOS RAR 2.50. I ran this from DOSBox, which is not fast but does work. Trying out the command again I was reminded of another critical point in the reconstruction, which is that the timestamps need to be set correctly:

Code: Select all

FLT-AOW.CUE: 1999-11-11T11:06:02
FLT-AOW.BIN: 1999-11-11T11:13:32
And I even found another time-related issue that I did not run into last time, which appears to be related to DST, which is now set differently compared to last November. It looks like your current time zone affects DOSBox's interpretation of file times (at least for 0.74-3 which I used). I had to set my computer to a different region to match the file times as reported by the DIR command to the actual file time of e.g. 11:06:02. Luckily it appears that DOSBox applies changes immediately, so you can just change the time zone in your windows settings and do a DIR to confirm it's correct.

With all the stars aligned the following command yielded once again a perfect reconstruction:

Code: Select all

RAR250.EXE a -m3 -s- -ds -v15000000b FLT-AOW.001 FLT-AOW.CUE FLT-AOW.BIN
